Simply love this product (as with all Mozilla prods) ....... but this problem has been really annoying for the past few years and at least 4 or 5 version updates. I figured this would get ironed out by now.....but perhaps it's a setting in my computer or something that's conflicting?

The problem is: When answering or drafting an email in Thunderbird.........the Font size changes automatically up one or two sizes while in the middle of typing. Really annoying having to keep going back in or backspacing to have a uniform font size throughout........Unprofessional also, when one slips out.

Anyone have this same problem??!!

Thanks much!!

Which version are you now using?

Help|About Thunderbird will tell you.

I used to have a problem with the font in the compose window being too small. I fixed that by setting the msgcompose.font_size in about:config, and I copied the setting into a user.js file that I saved in the profile to preserve the setting.

That sounds like just the ticket :)

Could you please translate that (dumb it down) to about 7 year old for me? I can do the changes, if you can tell me where I can find the settings (about:config) and where the user.js file is and what change you made/entered/copied-and-pasted to it specifically? Once I know where the files that need to be changed are, and what changed needs to be made, I should be able to take it from there :)

Thanks!

ToadHall posted a comment "Make sure your folders are visible".

I did that a long, long time ago, when I wasn't having this issue. I specifically need to know how to do what finitarry posted. Just where is the the "user.js" file that needs to be changed and what the change needs to be.

What setting did you change in msg.config and where the user.js file is and what needed to be added to or replaced and what setting(s) in about:config were changed. Has nothing to do with making sure my files are visible - not that I don't appreciate the help. All of my file are visible and I make changes through regedit constantly when deleting walware/spyware.

Thanks :)

// # Thunderbird User preferences

user_pref("msgcompose.font_face", "Courier"); user_pref("msgcompose.font_size", "large");

The above is a very short user.js file. The first line is a comment to indicate what the file is. The slashes at the beginning of a comment are important. The other lines set the type of font and the size. I did not like Menlo font so I changed it to Courier. You can change that to whatever monospace font you like. Use a plain text editor to create the file and place it in the Thunderbird profile, which you can locate from Help > Troubleshooting Information. You can add to the file later if you have more settings you want to preserve.

I would read the page I linked in my previous post. It has valuable tips that will be helpful.
