IMHO is better that, if clicking away, the To: field remain as:

   "Jack Moe" <jackmoe@xyz.com>

and not as:

   "jac >> Jack Moe" <jackmoe@xyz.com>


Note that using TAB button, the auto-completion works well.


Please note that receiver will see the "not well completed" auto-completion. By checking the header of a thus created received message, we can see: MIME-Version: 1.0 To: "jac >> Jack Moe" <jackmoe@xyz.com> Subject: test last


I'm running Mozilla Thunderbird 31.3.0 localized in en-US on windows 8.1 localized in italian. All names and domains are fully invented.

This is probably bug 1043310, which has a patch that is unfortunately not ready to ship in the next version of Thunderbird :-(
