I am getting the message : 'Firefox can't find the file at about:newtab.' when trying to open a new tab to access my links there. I am not sure the version number, but I do have whatever was last pushed down earlier this week. Is this something I can fix, or is this on the back end?

Chosen solution

You can zoom out the about:newtab page to resize the tiles and make more tiles fit.

  • View > Zoom > Zoom Out; Ctrl and +

This will affect all elements on the page, so text get smaller as well. Toggle the browser.newtab.preload pref on the about:config page in case of issues with zooming the about:newtab page.

I closed and reopened the browser, and now I have the newtab page with the tiles, but it is not showing me all of them. The about:config page is showing that I should have a 4x4 grid, but that is not what is there.

It worked properly before and showed 16 tiles.

If I fullpage my browser I can get 4 across. This is not what I want. There are no scroll bars. I want 16 tiles visible no matter what size my browser, or a scroll to see the rest just like before.

Oh wait... I have to do that every time I open the newtab though.
