Every time I go to file print Firefox crashes and closes. I have tried all options under the help menu on how to fix the print problems but none were helpful. In fact the help listed files that do not exist in my version of Firefox, I am running the most recent version of Firefox.

Hi paulo23, Thank your for your question. Oh wow, it seems that we may need to update the article? But to double check do you have hidden files shown? Or does the profile folder open up if you use this add on: Open Profile Folder

Also how is the printer detected on the computer? On a network or directly plugged in?

Thank you! Happy to troubleshoot further when you post back!

Hi guigs2,

Thank you for trying to help. Here goes my answers:

1- I think you might have to update the article, in my case I can follow most of it but can not find some of the files the article refer to, such as the print_printer in the about:config or the files that start with print_ in the prefs.js. According the the article https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/fix-printing-problems-firefox

2- I do not seem to have hidden files as I can see the profile folder as you recommended;

3- The printer is in the network. I was able to print it fine about a month ago but now I can not, I have not installed anything new and I can easily print anything using safari (running firefox on a macbook pro later 2011).

What else can we do? Thank you for helping

It looks like there are some new ones: print.always_cache_old_pres print.save_print_settings print.show_print_progress print.use_global_printsettings

Please try to add it back in. If there are any crash reports, also please copy and paste the submitted reports from the [about:support] page.

In order to change your Firefox Configuration please do the following steps :

  1. In the Location bar, type about:config and press Enter. The about:config "This might void your warranty!" warning page may appear.
  2. Click I'll be careful, I promise! to continue to the about:config page.
  3. right click new > string and enter name : print_printer and for value : enter the name of your printer with without the quotes, then OK.

Please post back with the results. Thank you!

Try updating to 31 and see if you can print in safe mode, the two threads I am tracking both have theme 1.0, is this the classic theme restorer? Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode

Still no success when trying to print. I installed the 31 and I believe this is the classic theme that was restored.

Would it make a difference if I would delete firefox altogether and try fresh? I would hate to have to do that... but if needed how would it be done?

Hi paulo23,

Would it make a difference if I would delete firefox altogether and try fresh?

It could not be ruled out it may help.

A clean reinstall may solve the issue and so could be tried but not as a first step and take care with what you do.

  1. First I suggest you back up your current profile.
Do this before trying even a new profile. You want to make sure you do not lose data such as bookmarks passwords or settings, or if you do that you may recover them. Put the backup folders and files somewhere safe outside Firefox profile or program paths. (Your Desktop will do)
  2. Next just try a clean additional test profile. And when it comes to trying to print again use safe mode, and make sure any and all Firefox Plugins are disabled.
  3. If that failed to help then it is worth trying a clean install of Firefox and that involves trashing the firefox Application (Windows: deleting the program files) NOT the Firefox Profile.

I have tried all solutions you provided and nothing helped. I went ahead and deleted and re installed the most current version of firefox and I still cannot print. Firefox keeps crashing when I hit print.

I noticed that after I deleted and reinstalled the newest version of Firefox I still have all my bookmarks and history from the previous Firefox I had, and I did not import any of it my self. Could that be part of the problem?

Nothing I tried worked. I think the next step would be to remove firefox from my computer and reinstall a fresh new copy. The question is how can I remove Firefox completely from my computer? I have tried to remove it but there is always somethings that I can not remove
