pages dont load and I get Waiting reply from ajax.googleapis.com

All of a sudden whatever page I am trying to visit it takes forever for the page to load. Sometimes the page does not load at all.

At the bottom of the browser I can see something that says Waiting reply from ajax.googleapis.com

I have firefox as my default browser and am about to trash it because of this problem. I would prefer a fix if that is possible however.
