I was in the middle of restoring the default settings on Firefox and it was in the process of cleaning up when my pc crashed. When I restarted I got the above problem. I first tried upgrading Firefox then I uninstalled it and reinstalled it and the problem still persists. Users/user/AppData/Roaming/Mozilla/Firefox/Profiles contains a file called 2nzoh7re.default-14046642433 I made some screen dumps but can't find a way to include them here. I also can't instal the Troubleshooting Information as it just produces the same persistent error message. I'm currently forced onto I.E. as I can't access Firefox.

Chosen solution

You can create a new profile.

See "Creating a profile":

If the new profile works then you can transfer files from a previously used profile to the new profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over the problem

The following is the contents of the Profiles file found at Users/user/AppData/Roaming/Mozilla/Firefox

[General] StartWithLastProfile=1

[Profile0] Name=default-1401496208367 IsRelative=1 Path=Profiles/8m75oyns.default-1401496208367 Default=1

[Profile1] Name=default-1404664242433 IsRelative=1 Path=Profiles/2nzoh7re.default-1404664242433

And one more screen dump

The default-1401496208367 profile is currently marked as the default profile (Default=1), so Firefox will search for a folder with this name. If only the other folder is present then that explains the error message.

The numbers appended are Unix epoch time stamps that show the time/date the folder had been created.

  • 1404664242433 = Sun 6 Jul 2014 16:30:42:433 GMT
  • 1401496208367 = Sat 31 May 2014 00:30:08:367 GMT

So it looks that the crash didn't finish properly.

Is there an "Old Firefox Data" folder on the desktop?

more options

Yes there is. It contains three folders, two appearing to match these dates: 8m75oyns.default-1401496208367 7/7/2014 uybewsmg.default-1397359534162 31/5/2014

more options

What is the third folder?

Is that an older folder?

Does it also have a time stamp appended that is likely the result of a reset?

more options

Yes it is older. It is 5mp1s2pw.default 13/4/2014 It doesn't seem to have the time stamp extension that the other two have. Find below screen dumps of this third folder and the Old Firefox Data folder.

Does anyone have any suggestions to solve this problem? I haven't been able to access Firefox for days now. Is the only solution to abandon firefox and use google chrome, because if I'm forced to use IE for much longer I will go insane?
