Subscribe to Mozilla VPN on PC

I'd like to subscribe and pay for Mozilla VPN on a PC and Android phone, but, don't want to initiate and pay for the subscription via Google Play. I'd rather manage the subscription for the service via a browser based interface on a PC, but, it seems like this is not currently possible. Is that the case?

I see someone else has already asked similary: Mozilla VPN availability on F-Droid would also be a plus.

You can pay for subscription with credit card or Paypal by going to https://vpn.mozilla.org and get either Annual or Monthly subscription.

If you subscribing while on Google Play then the payment options may be different.

There is a slight difference in subscription availability across regions. In which country are you located? (If I remember correctly e.g. Australia, Brazil, South Korea, Norway, Taiwan or South Africa can only subscribe via mobile stores etc.)

Hi jbr (and also James). Thanks for the clarification, that explains it then.

I've been in Australia while attempting to re-subscribe recently and found the online payment option conspiciously absent on https://vpn.mozilla.org/, different to what I'd previously encountered when in New Zealand, having previously been subscribed, but had just assumed that payment option that been totally removed.

Perhaps the differences in subscription options based on location would be good to add somewhere on the Mozilla VPN page or related documentation?

Yeah I remember seeing that availability change between the several tiers on the site, not sure if it's linked from somewhere in the subscription funnel. (Or it's not specifically called out there so people don't try to circumvent the payment flow with… your know… their VPN perhaps?;DD)

I think it has something to do with local (sales?) taxes, and who, where and how collects them. Subscribing via platform store is probably more expensive, but has the billing+taxing figured out for the organization.

The page itself looks differently based on the region you access it from:

Right, it's actually described in the help article: In which countries is Mozilla VPN available to subscribe? — with all the regional specifics.

If you're currently in a region that doesn't have the payment flow you prefer available, and, well let's say you'd rather use the payment method "like at home", you already have the tool to make that regional cloaking happen right at your fingertips, no?;)

I did overlook that page where the per national VPN restrictions are mentioned, and as per your previous message, perhaps the differences between payment methods for regions aren't blatantly spelled out because the then obvious workaround. ;-) Yes with all the different nations to cover, VAT/GST handling and the other different rules set by different Governments there'd be a lot to consider.

What sent me off track was signing into the Mozilla VPN software on Windows redirects one to the Mozilla VPN webpage with 'desktop signup flow'. One is then given the pricing in AUD, but told to subscribe with the app on their mobile device. If one actually did that, then I assume at some point the desktop app is going to present a message stating that for an Australian paid subscription the desktop VPN is not available at all ?

Further, the point remains that some in Australia (and other resticted regions) might prefer to use Mozilla VPN on their mobile devices but install it with F-Droid rather than PlayStore and also manage their subscription without the connection to Google. You've given us the primary part of the solution for now by noting the differences between regions. Then the VPN app installation on Android can be done with Aurora Store.

Perhaps what has confused the matter with the above described desktop app sign-in behavior is that my profile country is still set to NZ but the connections are originating from Australia...
