I get the "Well, this is embarrassing" screen and can't get past it. I can't bring forth Word or any other application. I can't do a thing!

I've tried turning off my desktop Mac at the power button, and when it comes back on, I get the "Well this is embarrassing" page. I cannot do anything after this! I'm completely stuck. My cursor moves around, but nothing is clickable. I can't bring forward Word or any other applications.

It sounds like the computer itself is locked. In most cases, hold down the power button to force the computer to quit.
