My homepage has been hijacked by something, that constantly changes it (back) to http://www.newversionchecker.com/?redr=www.easiestutils.com. What to do?

Recently I downloaded some Freeware, and although i was careful to uncheck alle the additional suggestions, something must have slipped thru after all. Firefox (and Explorer) have both changed their start pages to http://www.newversionchecker.com/?redr=www.easiestutils.com. And until now, all attempts of resetting it to normal, has been in vain. Malwarebytes, SuperAntiSpyware, AVG, Advanced Systemcare; none of them has been able to solve the problem. Any chances of a "easy fix" - or should I prepare for something much more time consuming?

Sometimes a problem with Firefox may be a result of malware installed on your computer, that you may not be aware of.

You can try some of the following programs to scan for malware:

The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information. Note: This will cause you to lose any Extensions, Open websites, and some Preferences.

To Reset Firefox do the following:

  1. Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
  2. Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
  3. Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
  4. Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.

Further information can be found in the Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings article.

Thanks! The reset option apparantly did the trick. None of the anti-Malware/Spyware programs found anything, but efter a complete reset, Firefox now opens on the standard page.
