We have a Radeon HD 3400 video card with the latest drivers installed 8.970.100.3000. We also are using the latest release of Firefox 17.01 along with release 7 Java on a Windows XP Dell PC (gx760) and 4 Gig RAM. When cropping a photo via Firefox there is a 2-3 second delay. We beleive that the problem is tied to Java and the video card somehow but only when using Firefox? We are installing an older version of Java abnd it seems to be OK, but Firefox gives a warning that the version we are using is old (6 update 33.)

First, update to Java 7 update 10 or later. Then try to Reset Firefox. Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings

We have installed that verison, that seems to be part of the problem. So we have to roll back to an older Java release and its OK. whats Odd is that it works on a PC thats doesnt have this video card installed? so a combination of firefox, java and video card. Trying to find the culprit.

Did you try to Reset Firefox?

Also, it looks like there is a newer version of your Graphics driver (8.98). http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/legacy/Pages/legacy-radeonaiw-xp.aspx

Did you try to clear the Java cache?

Not sure I understand what you mean when your say "reset" Firefox? And that link is exactly where I downloaded the latest driver from, the version I posted is what it installed. This problem by the way is not on one PC its on 25-30 of them all with the similar video card, the others are Radeon HD 2400 models. As long as I keep the old version Java installed it OK.

To Reset Firefox do the following:

  1. Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
  2. Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
  3. Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
  4. Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.

Further information can be found in the Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings article.

And if this is just happening with newer Java versions, sounds like a Java issue. Try to contact their support. You should still keep the newest version of java however as the older versions have some pretty horrible security flaws. It's better to deal with a few seconds of a delay cropping a picture than days of cleaning up from a security breach.

Also, why don't you use something else to crop photos? paint will work, GIMP, Picasa, anything that isn't browser based will probably give you better performance.
