Previous versions of Firefox allowed me to download web pages as .mht files.

Firefox 6.0.2 will not.

I now have to switch to Internet Explorer 9 when I want to download web pages in the .mht format.

You should be able to find an addon that will allow you to save and open .mht files. For example: http://maf.mozdev.org/
