Scrambled emails? Advice please
I use Thunderbird all the time as my email on a desktop PC.
For several emails, especially some from yesterday the Correspondent and the subject have ?crossed?
For example: an email looked from the Correspondent list as if sent from my energy provider but the message was from a Garden Centre. It's not a one-off; another message looked like from a magazine but was a receipt for a purchase. They were not consecutive so it's not as if the list has 'slipped' by one or two. I think it's happened before but not as worrysome.
Is there a reason or solution please?
I'm now scared to delete unwanted emails without time consuming checking each one in detail.
Thank you for any advice/support/suggestions

Try right-click Inbox > Properties > click 'Repair folder' button.
Thank you Christ1
Sadly, your suggestion did not work but I appreciate you taking the time to reply.
Anyone else got any ideas/suggestions Thank you
Hello there Tylex.polystyrene.
Are you using POP or IMAP?Was it the inbox or a subfolder that you right-clicked to access the 'Repair Folder' options in Thunderbird?
Hello there
Since repairing the folder with the external tool ( if you did) didn't work, you can try restoring it using Thunderbird's built-in repair function. Please feel free to try this 'Repair Folder' option on your other folders as well.
The issue might affect multiple folders, rather than just the Inbox you have already tried. You could also try adding an exception for Thunderbird in your antivirus software.
Which antivirus program are you currently using? If you have some time, feel free to try the steps described below. If this doesn't resolve the issue, we will be happy to assist you further :
Open Thunderbird and go to Help > Troubleshooting Information.Look for the Profile Folder row and click Open Folder.
This will open Windows File Explorer. Now, close and exit the Thunderbird program completely.
In File Explorer, look for a folder named Mail or ImapMail, depending on whether you use POP or IMAP.
Open the folder of your specific email provider (for example, yourprovider.com or yourprovider.com).
Look for files that end with the .msf extension. Delete only the files that end in .msf. Please make sure not to delete the files without this extension, as those contain your actual email data.Restart Thunderbird.

Hello Googlethunderbird
Thank you for replying.
I used the main Thunderbird inbox to try christ1's solution I did it twice just in case!
I've just checked my emails on the website of BT who are my internet/ email providers and the emails on there are correct i.e. the correspondent and the subject match. It's not all my emails either so I am mystified.
I'm not sure if I'm using POP or IMAP but if I delete one on Thunderbird it deletes from the BT site also. Does this help?

Hello there
Great that you were able to follow these steps.
Unfortunately, they didn't resolve the issues, but luckily all your files are still safely stored on the server since you are using IMAP.
Given the many errors you are trying to correct in the software, it is clear that Thunderbird's central database system has become corrupted.
We can try the following:
Step 1: Verify the account typeBefore we proceed, please double-check to make sure you are indeed using an IMAP account.
Step 2: Rebuild the global databaseSince the entire index is corrupted, we can try deleting the global database. Rebuilding this data will allow Thunderbird to generate fresh, clean records.
In Thunderbird, go to the menu and click Help > Troubleshooting Information.
Under Application Basics, look for the Profile Folder and open it.Close Thunderbird completely, but leave the opened folder visible on your screen.
In this folder, look for the file named global-messages-db.sqlite.Right-click the file and select Delete.
(Note: This file will not disappear permanently; it will automatically rebuild itself after restarting and will not damage your email data).
Restart Thunderbird.

Hello there
If you do not wish to follow the provided instructions, you can also apply the 'repair folder' solution to folders other than just this inbox.
You can repeat this until you are satisfied with the result and everything is working properly again. If you have carried out the above instructions but none of them solved the problem, please describe exactly what happened so we can find a suitable solution for you.
