I am unable to access any email on my Windows 11 computer, regardless of the email server (tds or gmail) or the browser (Firefox or Edge) used, and even when Bitdefender is turned off.

I turned off my HP computer with Windows 11 on August 1. Everything was working fine at that time. When I turned it on again on August 18, everything worked except email. I can get email on my iphone, but not on my computer. I spent over an hour trouble-shooting with someone representing my email server, tds.net, with no resolution. I tried to access my email thru Firefox, my usual browser, as well as thru Edge. The message I get when trying to access my tds email is: "The connection has timed out. The server at mail.tds.net is taking too long to respond." I then went to an IT specialist who tried everything he could, including disabling Bitdefender, and nothing worked. I then tried to open an email account with gmail.com and received this message: "The page isn’t redirecting properly. Firefox can’t connect to the server at accounts.google.com." I don't know what else to try. Everything I read said the it is likely a problem with my anti-virus software, but the problem still exists when that is turned off. Is there anything else I can try???

It sounds like you’ve already ruled out some of the more obvious causes by disabling Bitdefender and trying different browsers. Since the issue affects both your email provider and Gmail, I’d also check whether Windows or your network is blocking the connections.

You could try connecting the computer to a different network temporarily, such as a phone hotspot, and see if email works there. If it does, that would point more toward a network, DNS, or firewall issue rather than Firefox itself.

I’d also check Windows proxy settings and DNS settings, then restart the computer after making any changes. If you can access email normally from the same network on another device, comparing the DNS/proxy settings between the two devices may help narrow it down.

Thank you. You are correct.

Yesterday, I discovered that the email on my phone was also not working. I disconnected my phone from WiFi and it worked. That's when I realized that the problem was my network provider - but it was after 5pm on Friday and I could not contact them until Monday. Today I checked my email periodically and it remained the same... until just moments ago when all my emails were restored. I'm relieved that the issues is finally resolved, but not happy that my network provider did something to block my emails for 3 weeks. I will call them on Monday.

Glad you got it sorted out. It’s interesting that the issue turned out to affect the phone as well, since that makes a browser or Windows-specific problem much less likely. Network issues like that can definitely waste a lot of time before the real cause becomes clear.
