how do i get firefox to stop asking for permission to make changes to my device? It happens each time i open the browser.

Running Windows 10, and any time I open Firefox it asks for permission to make changes to my device. I can click "no" and it still opens, but its annoying because it prompts me every time I open it. One day I might accidentally click yes. How do I deactivate the notifications?

Shut down Firefox. Using your file browser, open the Programs Folder on your computer.

Windows: C:\Program Files C:\Program Files (x86)

Right click on Firefox.exe and select Properties. Now select Compatibility. Turn Off Run This Program In Compatibility Mode, and Run This Program As An Administrator.

Do the same for any Firefox shortcuts you have. Now restart Firefox.

I tried this, but when I opened the compatibility tap these features were already deselected. I appreciate the feedback, but this doesn't seem to address the problem.

Did you also check the Properties in the Firefox desktop shortcut?

Try to run the Firefox program once as Administrator (right-click: Run as Administrator).

Do a clean reinstall of the current Firefox release and delete the Firefox program folder before installing a fresh copy of the current Firefox release.

If possible uninstall your current Firefox version to cleanup the Windows Registry and settings in security software.

  • do NOT remove "personal data" when you uninstall the current Firefox version, because this will remove all profile folders and you lose personal data like bookmarks and passwords including data in profiles created by other Firefox versions

Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.

  • (32 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\"
  • (64 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\"

Your personal data like bookmarks is stored in the Firefox profile folder, so you won't lose personal data when you uninstall and reinstall or update Firefox, but make sure NOT to remove personal data when you uninstall Firefox as that will remove all Firefox profile folders and you lose your personal data.
