The bottom of my email page incorrectly reports I have over 6000 emails in my in box. How can I correct that?
When I open my Thunderbird program, at very bottom, right, of the page, it is reflected that my inbox contains over 6000 messages. This is not correct. How can I fix this? Could there be messages somewhere in the system that do not appear in my active inbox?

Well, you are doing fine ;-)
You may try to "repair folder":
Right-click on your Inbox, select Properties. In the General Information tab click on the button "Repair Folder".
Try if that helps.

Hi Dillfour, what happens when you go to the File menu and click 'Compact Folders' while being in your inbox?
Hi Sander ... The number does not change. The compacting process takes what I think is much longer than would be necessary to compact the 3 or 400 message I show as being in the inbox, which makes me suspicious there are some messages somewhere. Also, I have been experiencing an intermittent message regarding "can't write to" ... indicating I may need to compact etc ... which also makes me suspicious there are some messages lurking somewhere ....
Note that depending on your setup your inbox may be on top of a hierarchy including other folders (subfolders) such as sent, junk, deleted etc. (see screenshot). Thus, messages in those (sub-)folders would be counted as well.
If you click on a folder without subfolders, e. g. "Sent", the number would of course just count messages in the selected subfolder.
Greetings Wuergler ... I understand, however, I have gone to each of the individual boxes, emptied the contents of all but "sent" and there are very few messages in that one. Still reflects almost 6.5 thousand messages down in that lower right corner. My inbox has about four hundred messages only.
Thanks.
This is my first attempt at using this forum, so am slowly finding my way.

Greetings Sander, Greetings Wuergler ...
I am embarrassed to report I have discovered there WERE several thousand emails in my inbox. I have deleted them, and the situation is resolved. Again, thank you for your kind advice. Signed, Embarrassed.
No problem, things happen ... glad you solved it.
