When I select a minimized window, it "reopens" to a micro-window [not a tab] in upper-left corner; thus I get to "restore" every window TWICE.

You can check for problems with the localstore.rdf file.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
