Hi flmeade,

This isn't something that Firefox does by default. There a lot of cool add-ons though that will do exactly this.

You should take a look at the Knowledge Base article Find and install add-ons to add features to Firefox. It will show you how to use add-ons to enhance Firefox.

There are probably a lot that will do what you are asking for. I use New Tab King.
