On android, it is possible to change the search engine of the search bar on the home screen. There you can select a Search Engine App, like Google, Qwant or Startpage.

However, Firefox is currently not available as a selectable option there. Adding it there would make it possible for those searches to be handled by firefox.

Here is a like from the Google Documention explaining it more. https://support.google.com/android/answer/14661350?visit_id=638898573078368897-2813460311&p=change_search_engine&rd=1

Hi

Firefox for Android is not a search engine, which is why it is not listed in your screenshot.

This support article will help you up add a Firefox search widget to the Android home screen, allowing you to use your choice of search engine:

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/add-firefox-widget-your-home-screen

I hope this this helps.

Thanks, I know that. But its not actually a "search engine" select. It just configures which app handles the searches. While both Qwant and Startpage are search engines, they only appear because I have installed their browsers (which are both forks of the android Firefox app).
