Firefox normally wouldn't do a spell check for single line input fields (layout.spellcheckDefault = 1), so it wouldn't work with this Google page.

I notice that you have a lot of extensions installed including "Checker Plus for Gmail".

Start Firefox in Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration or userChrome.css is causing the problem.

  • switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Themes
  • do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Troubleshoot Mode start window

Thank you. If you follow the advice, you won't see the red spell check line for now. It seems that "Checker Plus for Gmail" and "userChrome.css" were the cause.
