email password gets dropped from settings
In my email setting on my main account the password keeps getting dropped asking me to re-enter and then it will not work intermittently

Getting asked for your password intermittently does not mean Thunderbird is forgetting it. It means that the server is not accepting it. When this happens have you gone into settings to see if the password is still there? My bet is that it is.
Press the alt key if your menu bar is not showing.
From the Menu Bar select Tools-Options-Security-Passwords-Saved passwords
