What I want is the inline search function to work by... a) appearing when I press F3 or Ctrl+F b) find (and highlight) stuff when I start typing c) stay on the bloody page after i change pages, tabs, etc.

What I've noticed it doing is inheriting the text I may copy and offering that as a search which is not at all what I want. Or automatically searching when I press F3 (and failing with an annoying beep) instead of offering me the search bar to type something else.

If you could point me in the direction of search controls or a fix or an addon to replace it, I'd be SO happy.

(for the record, I'm using up-to-date v.27 Firefox)

Hi loutusmaximus,

There are two features I can think of:

  1. The accessibility feature that searches on the page automatically when you start typing it is in Firefox > Options > Options > Advanced > General > "Search for text when I start typing"
  2. Smart Find high lights everything, and has a similar search.

There is a toggle the Find bar add on as well, but I have not tried it. See Also: https://blog.mozilla.org/theden/2013/.../4-shortcuts-to-find-things-fast-with-firefox/
