BBC news embbed video freezes at 8 sec if browser zoomed in
Hello, When using the browser zoomed in, the BBC news embedded video freezes at 8 seconds and will not restart. The BeThere ISP user forum contributes that this happens on other browsers and may be a bug in FF or Flash Player. Updating Flash and FF to latest issues does not solve the problem.

If you are able to post links to problem videos maybe someone else may try them to see how they behave. Are you in the UK ? (BBC gives different pages outside the UK, they may include adverts, they may not stream some content that is available only within the uk )
Without trying to check myself I would guess this is one of the Flash 11.3 related problems. Developers have been working on issues for a couple of weeks now.
Consider downgrading to the secure Flash 10.3 or the less secure Flash 11.2 You probably should use the Adobe uninstaller. Full instructions are in
- Flash 113 crashes
It is worth looking at articles linked from there. And revisiting to check for revisions and updates.
Care: note the Adobe uninstaller my uninstall more than you intend, you may need to check what is left available to Windows and IE and do further reinstalling.
The above is only a temprary workaround. You are likely to loose use of protected mode and that is itself a feature introduced to improve security.

Hello, Thanks for your reply. Here is a link to an example problem embedded video. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-18765825
I am in the UK and the problem only happens if the browser is zoomed in for a larger image. With Firefox I can't tell what the zoom level is but I'm told that in IE with the problem it is 125%.
If the problem was part of the standard Flash 11.3 issue it should not be affecting IE.
I am unable to replicate, the linked video works ok for me on the zoom settings I tried although I have been testing on Firefox 15.
On Windows 7 64 bit IE9 works ok including on 125% zoom that was With Flash 11.3 . Also ok in fx15.
On ubuntu with Flash 11.2 (iirc) also works on fx15.
I will need to reboot to test the ordinary release but have just opened a legacy fx3.6 on Windows and that also plays ok at the zoom settings I tried.
I suggest you try the standard troubleshooting advice in:
Did you mention forum posts where others notice the problem, if so can you give a link if it is a public forum.
Hello, The forum is my ISP user group and hence is private.
FYI the following is a reply from my ISP. ' In regards to your issue, we can confirm that the issue has been traced to the script issue with the embedded video on the BBC website, which can be resolved by zooming in or out on your browser to the correct scale.
At the moment we don¿t have confirmation if this is localized to BE only as the nature of the issue suggests it should be generalized. Nevertheless we are collecting more information on the matter so that we may escalate this and bring this to the attention of BBC as a generalized issue. '
From what I recall the BBC sites use extremly convoluted scripting for some historical compatability reasons.
Good luck with getting inormation through to the BBC. I know from when they had an iPlayer forum that it was almost impossible to get information through quickly to technical staff. Unless you were lucky enough to have their private email addresses.
They do have a formal escalation procedure, but that itself is not too easy to use. Your case may be harder to make untill you can reliably demonstarate a reproducible problem. As I mentioned, I am not able to replicate te problem myself and so will the BBC be able to see the problem?
Probably best to leave it with your ISP as they seem to have identified the problem and a possible cause.
Thanks,
I will update you with any progress made.
