Annoying default to Ask.com

I just downloaded Firefox 4 and my browser keeps defaulting to Ask.com when I type in a search term in the google taskbar. I've followed posted advice and edited in the about:config window. I changed all browser entries that were listed with the value "Ask" to "Google". I still have the same issue even though there are now now instances of Ask in my config file. This is really frustrating and makes me almost want to go to internet explorer (Yikes!).

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

In Firefox 4 you can use one of these to start in Safe mode:

  • Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
  • Hold down the Shift key while double clicking the Firefox desktop shortcut (Windows)

Thanks. Changing the theme and disabling the extensions did not seem to work, but restoring to Firefox defaults in safe mode and restarting seem to do the trick.
