Thunderbird update destroyed my email organization
Is there a way to revert back from a Thunderbird update? I have my inbox with current emails, but my folder organization on the left is disorganized and contents are missing and many folders are missing. It's destroyed YEARS of work!

Hi Jim Looking at previous posts you made, it sounds like you have a gmail account.
What version of Thunderbird are you using?
Are you talking about a gmail account ? Did you by any chance remove the account and then create it again ? I need to know what do you see in this location:
- In 'Account Settings'
- Select: 'Server Settings' for the account.
- Make the window wide enough so it shows all the information including all the text in the 'Local directory: near the bottom
- Take a screenshot and upload the image file to this form question.
This will me :
- if you are using a Pop or IMAP account
- the profile name folder
- the current account name folder it is currently using.
I'm asking for this information because in the past you used a Pop account set up, but then removed the account and when you created it again you set up as Imap. That meant all the pop folders would not be visible as you would only see what was on the server.
re :Thunderbird update
Did you uninstall Thunderbird and then reinstall latest version ? OR Did thunderbird perform and automatic update? OR did you get asked to update and you selected to update?

Toad Hall - I am not forum savvy. I do not know how to upload the screen shot to you (actually two screen shots - one for the upper portion and one for the lower portion). I do not even know if this is the right place to respond to your questions.
In answer to your questions, 1. version 158.0 (64-bit) 2. I have both a Yahoo account and a Gmail account connected to Thunderbird. Right now, working with the profiles, I get EITHER Yahoo or Gmail showing up in my Thunderbird. 3. I did not remove the account and then create it again. 4. I was gone over the weekend. When I came back home, I clicked into Thunderbird and it looked different, and there were different pop-up messages of which I cannot remember (something about an automatic update, something about storage issues, etc.) . I was afraid to acknowledge the messages, so I just X-ed out of them. Initially, only the Yahoo account showed up. Following online suggestions, I rebooted my computer to no avail, and I brought up the profiles. By clicking on the second profile, my Gmail account showed up but not the Yahoo.
Thank you for your help.
Another pop-up keeps showing up "Thunderbird needs to do file maintenance . . . Compact Now or Remind Me Later.

Yes you posted in the correct forum question. When you are in this forum question, you type your response in what is called a 'Post a Reply' text box. Just below that 'Post a Reply' text box are the words : 'Add images' Click on 'Browse' button It opens a window and you can select the screenshot image file and click on 'Open' button. that will auto upload it to this forum question as a thumbnail size image. To upload another - click on 'Browse' again, select the other image and click on Open again. Once you have uploaded all images click on the 'Post Reply' button.
I would have thought you could get everything in one image, but it doesn't matter.
You may find it useful to set your Mozilla user profile as a Bookmark in your browser. This is a link to your Mozilla profile. It shows all the questions you have asked, so if you are unsure, use the link and then you can select the question.

When you delete emails, they go to Trash and later you may empty the TRash. However, in reality, the original email is still lurking in the original folder eg: Inbox. It has been marked as deleted and hidden.
Compacting the folder means, thunderbird looks for all the wanted emails, ignoring all those marked as deleted. It copies them to another file, then it replaces the original with the cleaned up file. It reduces the file size because it has properly removed all the emails you have either deleted or moved to another folder. So you end up with a nice and tidy file. Compacting does not delete emails, it's removing old traces of emails you have already deleted. It's advisable to compact as a regular part of maintenance. If you do not compact, the files may get very large and messy and more prone to getting corrupted.
Whilst compacting is occurring and it doesn't take very long - do not select to view emails and do not exit thunderbird.
