This is a recently discovered bug. The symptom happens when you previously attached a file but now the previous containing folder no longer exists because it was deleted or renamed. When you later try to attach a file using the Write window's "Attach" button, it will silently fail, that is, clicking the button will appear to do nothing. The bug has been fixed for the next release, due this week.

In the meantime, a workaround is to drag-and-drop the file onto the Write window using the mouse.

Or, if you're comfortable delving into Thunderbird's Advanced Settings:

- In <Settings | General | Config Editor> search for: "mail.compose.attach.dir".

- The value (path) here must be changed to one that is still available (for example C:\).

- The Attach button should work again right away - it's not necessary to restart Thunderbird.

I can't find the Config Editor in Settings|General nor can I drag the PDF attachment onto the write screen - and I have the latest version of ThunderBird. I will wait uintil the update bug free version is available. Or use Outlook

Look again. It's there. See attached animation.

It is the Advanced setting button. Or refer to the support article on the Config Editor

Please yourself., but what you see might or might not be the bug Lin refers to. Certainly there is a bug. Certainly is involves sending attachments. But it only applies if the location last used to send an attachment no longer exists (usually this is a USB that has been unplugged) Does that apply to you? I have no idea. So you might be waiting 5for a fix to something that does not apply to you.

As for using Outlook, do so if you wish. I use Thunderbird because despite it's limitations it is safer to use than Outlook.
