Thunderbird "Attach" button nor yellow attach bar reminder functioning.
Just recently, the "Attach" button in the top right corner of emails in Thunderbird has stopped working. You can click it but it will not open a window to select a file to attach. Similarly, the yellow reminder bar will not allow attachments to be selected.
However, it is still possible to attach a file by dragging and dropping from an open older in Windows Explorer.
The version of Thunderbird I am running is Thunderbird 153.4.0esr (64-bit) [showing as up to date] running on OS Windows 11 Home Version 25H2.
I tried removing the button and then reinstating it (a fix suggested online) but this had no affect. I also checked in properties that the Run as Administrator box was not ticked.
Another fix suggested on line was to rename the file xulstore.json as xulstore.json.old, but this did not solve the problem either.
Any help in solving this problem would be appreciated. Thanks.

You're probably seeing a recently discovered bug - the symptom is that if you previously attached a file, but the previous folder no longer exists because it was deleted or renamed, when you later try to attach a file using the Write window's "Attach" button, it will silently fail. That is, clicking the button will appear to do nothing. The bug should be fixed in the next release.
In the meantime, a workaround is to drag-and-drop the file onto the Write window.
Or, if you don't mind changing Thunderbird's Advanced Settings:
- In the settings > general > Config Editor, search for: "mail.compose.attach.dir".
- The value (path) here must be changed to one that is still available (for example C:).
- Close and exit Thunderbird, then restart it (this step might not be necessary.)

Hi Lin, Thank you so much, I followed your instructions and edited the value for "mail.compose.attach.dir" to the name of a folder I knew existed, and it worked!
Thanks for your explanation, solution and fast response. :-) Bakers
