Twitter/X Login Impossible
Logging in to Twitter/X is no longer possible as of a couple of days ago. After entering the username, pressing the "Next" button does nothing. Using the Desktop or Mobile version of the site makes no difference.

Hi focuspocus77,
Thanks for reporting this. We’ve seen a few recent cases where the “Next” button on X/Twitter stops responding in Firefox, usually due to site data, extensions, or enhanced tracking protections interfering with the login flow.
1. Please try the following steps in order:
-Test in a Private Window -Open Firefox Menu → New Private Window -Go to https://x.com/login -Try signing in again
If it works there, the issue is likely caused by cached site data or an extension.
2. Clear cookies/site data for X/Twitter -Open Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data → Manage Data -Search for:
-x.com -twitter.com
- Remove both entries - Restart Firefox and test again
3.Disable extensions temporarily - Some privacy/security extensions can block the login redirect or scripts needed for the “Next” button. - Open Menu → Add-ons and Themes → Extensions - Temporarily disable: - ad blockers - script blockers - privacy/security extensions - Test the login again - Turn off Enhanced Tracking Protection for X - Visit x.com - Click the shield icon in the address bar - Turn off “Enhanced Tracking Protection” for the site - Refresh and try again
Update Firefox - Please make sure you’re running the latest version: - Menu → Help → About Firefox
If the issue continues after these steps, please let us know.
I'm using the Firefox Focus app on iOS 15.8.7, version 148.2 (68622)
The above fixes don't apply at all to this case. Twitter worked fine, without issues until about a couple of days ago. Do you know if the website is now blocking mobile access or ad blockers to incentivize the use of the official app?
No, that's not the case here. They're basically leaving behind old platforms, only officially supporting the last major versions of browsers and OSes according to their help docs (without enforcing that in any way luckily), which leaves them plenty room not to test or care for platforms they either don't have time for or access to, or compatibility data for, or the ability to run in automation etc.
And while iOS 15.8.x is still actually getting security updates even as of this month, Apple might have the data at hand that it's important to them. While Xitter does not see the need to support the platform, or they might not even know — as the site itself appears working, it's just logins that broke:[ This functionality is basically limited by what Apple had shipped back in the day, as security updates do not mean API upgrades or feature improvements, so the functionality available on the device is only that from almost half a decade ago, and this is something Xitter would have to be willing to work around. (Firefox does not have much say in what platform features are exposed or available on any iOS version, and only does progressive enhancement to make sure things are available on the systems exposing them, but can't make something work that's not available at all on the OS level.)
Basically if you try Safari on the same system, you'll most likely run into the same limitation:/
There's a lot of enterprises recently dropping iOS 15 or OSX <10.15 support in their login flows or security definitions, so there's more similar reports across finance, retail, and more sites; US and EU alike.
That said: I see you've posted this from a very old macOS using 115.Xesr — just a heads up people have reported being unable to log back in to Xitter after signing out for similar incompatibility issues (the login scripts just error out in console). So not only your older iOS seems no longer supported, but also your macOS Sierra might be limiting you to log back to Xitter if need be, so be careful around signing out or wiping browsing data.
