Duplicate Emails

Occasionally Emails are duplicated. When this happens, deleting one of the copies, both are replaced with the date 12/31/69, 1900(7:00PM). How can I stop this? sometimes I lose important emails because of this. The last time, all of the email messages were duplicated, and when I tried to delete the message I described, The command was ignored. This is an ongoing problem. HELP!!
