Lost all data
Hi, I was looking for a funny page and found youranidiot.com and when I went to the page about a dozen or more little windows popped up and were bouncing all over the desktop with happy faces in them. I finally got them to stop and closed everything down, however now, all my bookmarks are gone, firefox will not sync, I cant change password to a primary one. I can not restore my bookmarks from previous save. I am worried they got all my info. what can I do??

That isn't a Firefox issue at this point if the site you click on caused this issue. If your unable to restore your data back you should stop using it and have a computer shop diagnosis the issue here.
I am not sure that it caused the problem, I was just assuming. Is there any way to check firefox to see what is the actual problem?? Nothing else is wrong on my computer, only this solo problem with the bookmarks in FF.
If you use Sync then best is to disconnect Sync temporarily during troubleshooting.
This could be a problem with the places.sqlite and favicons.sqlite files in the Firefox profile folder.
- use the "Places Database" -> "Verify Integrity" button on the "Help -> More Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page
If errors are reported with "Verify Integrity", close and restart Firefox or reboot and retry.
If "Verify Integrity" cannot repair places.sqlite, rename/remove all places.sqlite and favicons.sqlite files in the Firefox profile folder with Firefox closed. Firefox will rebuild places.sqlite and restore the bookmarks from the most recent JSON backup in the bookmarkbackups folder.
- keep a backup copy of places.sqlite in case a new places.sqlite database has to be created
- you lose the history when a new places.sqlite is created
You may have to restore an older bookmarks backup in the bookmarkbackups folder via the Bookmarks Manager (Library).
- Bookmarks -> Manage Bookmarks -> Import & Backup -> Restore
- https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/restore-bookmarks-from-backup-or-move-them

You can use the button on the "Help -> More Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page to go to the current Firefox profile folder or use the about:profiles page (Root directory).
- Help -> More Troubleshooting Information -> Profile Folder/Directory:
Windows: Open Folder; Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder - https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profiles-where-firefox-stores-user-data
Tried that, didn't work, the top bar says it can not because one of firefox's files is in use by another application.
Restoring a profile backup Click the Firefox menu and select Exit. Click the Firefox menu at the top of the screen and select Quit Firefox. ... If your existing profile folder and profile backup folder have the same name, simply replace the existing profile folder with the profile backup, then start Firefox.
Regards, Will
I can not fine the profile folders, only the back up firefox folder, that one has the wrong back ups in it.
