I want to know what caused the Firefox icon to disappear from my dock and be replaced by the generic icon. Firefox seems to continue to work well. I don't want to re-install it when it seems to work. However, I want to know what caused this to happen and if there is an easy way to restore it to the unique icon. I've read about the various remedies but don't want to take the time for a re-install when everything seems to be working.

Please just tell me the cause and if there is an easy solution.

If you have a problem with the Firefox icon in the Dock then try to reinstall Firefox and drag the current Firefox application to the Trash.

Another work around is to create an alias and drag it into the dock.

My question was to find out what caused that to happen.

The Firefox icon disappears on the Windows 10 Toolbar with every Firefox Update. This is new and never used to happen until about 5-8 months ago. It is a huge waste of time to put a properly labeled icon back in place.

There is no logical reason to remove the icon from the Toolbar, and most, though not all programs leave their icon alone.

Fortunately I keep a good icon on my desktop and delete the empty icon shell and replace it with my spare.

For those who think this is too trivial to mention please read on:

You can't just erase the damn empty icon shell, it takes a lot of messing around before you can do that, which I am guessing is a Windows issue. In any case the only way I found to erase the damn thing is to exit Firefox and then try to delete it. It still won't delete, but there is a message which once you choose it allows you to delete the empty shell. Once that is done, you can put your spare Firefox icon on the toolbar.

Like most organized people I use the Toolbar and have spent time organizing it so it is optimal- arranged from the most often used ones on the left to the least used ones on the right.

There are enough extremely frustrating new problems with every damn update with virtually every program on Windows, that I and probably most people waste a lot of time fixing these new issues. I don't need any extra frustrations, that's for sure.

So whoever started deleting the Firefox icon, please undo this annoying "improvement" and make our life just a tiny bit less frustrating.

Thanks,

Dan

Quick workaround is to have a Spare Firefox Icon somewhere on your computer. This is a lot easier than to have to re-install Firefox.

Read my prior comment about this problem.
