Not sure how far you got in the process. If you're on the home page,
1. tap the three horizontal bars (lower right for iPhone, upper right on iPad 2. select your username at the top 3. slide all of the selected items to turn off sync.
If you're on a desktop, Click on the User icon (upper right--looks like a head in a circle) and choose sync settings
