Can I automatically make replies look as though they come from the address the email was sent to?

I have a 'catch-all' set up on my email domain name so that I can put anything I like before "@mydomain.com" and the emails will be directed to a single address. Thus I might tell Hertz that my address is hertz@mydomain.com and tell an annoying telemarketer that my address is leavemealone@mydomain.com. Both of these emails will be re-directed to the same gmail account (that I look at with T-Bird). It would be really neat to make my replies automatically appear as though they come from the address to which they were sent, or at least carry that address in the 'reply to' field. Because I make up these email addresses as I go along, and many of them don't get much use, I would rather avoid having to set up a different identity for each of them. Any ideas?

You need to add an identity which is not the same as adding a mail account.

  • Right click on mail account name in Folder Pane and select 'Settings'
  • click on 'Manage Identities...' button
  • click on 'Add'
  • Enter additional email address as identity and complete all fields.
  • Click on Close
  • Click on OK
  • Restart Thunderbird.
