Wrong encoded characters in reply

When I reply an incoming message other than unicode (eg in ISO-8859-7) in my editor the characters are correct but the recipient gets wrong characters (something like that: οΏ½οΏ½οΏ½οΏ½οΏ½οΏ½οΏ½οΏ½οΏ½). The encoding of the message is by default the same as the incoming (ISO-8859-7) The only work around I found is to change the encoding to unicode before sending it. Is there a more permanent solution to that problem? I read the related articles in support forum and tried changed some settings with no success. Maybe I missing something...

Thank you in advance!!

Thanks!! It is in fact replies from yahoo email IMAP account. We sure need to address this to email provider.

The second workaround below (from https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1234760#answer-1157415) didn't help. I already had it set this way. (The incoming is also set to UTF-8 as the outgoing - not sure if it should be). The first I didn't try in order to keep formatting.

Workarounds:

Set preference mail.strictly_mime to true.

Or setup to send in UTF-8 always: Tools > Options, Display, Fonts & Colors, Advanced, Text Encoding.

Select UTF-8 for outgoing mail and clear "When possible, ..."
