Do you mean when you download a JAR in Firefox? Please check whether you can remove it on the Options page:

  • Windows: "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options
  • Mac: "3-bar" menu button (or Firefox menu) > Preferences
  • Linux: "3-bar" menu button (or Edit menu) > Preferences
  • Any system: type or paste about:preferences into the address bar and press Enter/Return to load it

Scroll down to the Applications section where there is a scrolling box of different types of content. I'm not sure how JAR will be listed, but hopefully you can find it there and change the action to "Always Ask".

Does that work?

If you meant when you open a file in Windows, you probably need to go to the Control Panel for file associations and change from Firefox to your preferred application (maybe something like a zip program).
