message filters not working

None of my message filters are working, either automatically or manually. I have set it up to run before junk classification, "from is xxx" and "match any of the following" i have set it to move emails to a specific folder in my account. I even tried having it moved to a local folder and when that didnt work, just adding a star to the email. still didnt run. what am I doing wrong? running windows 10 vivaldi browser , thunderbird version 52.1.1 thanks in advance

sorry for my slow reply; my isp had major issues with their servers today. anyway, it does appear to have resolved the issue. The only add on I had was calendar and theme. do these have a history of causing problems? thanks, ed schilling
