Sent messages were there and now missing.
Thunderbird says I have >1800 messages in my Sent folder. I was just looking at one from 2015. When I went back to see it again, much of my Sent folder was missing even though it still says I have >1800 messages in that folder.

I tried all those things and nothing worked. Note: the messages were there in the morning and not in the afternoon, so I don't think any of the first suggestions were relevant.
I've decided to try another option. On computer, I have Sent messages from July 31 through now. On external HD, I have Sent messages up to July 31.
How can I merge these?
How did you get the Sent messages on to the external HDD? Their format will affect how you go about restoring them.
It was a backup.
To be more specific, it was a backup using Acronis True Image 2014.
It turns out I had a virus.
