I'm using an old laptop that cannot accept later versions of OSX. It will not allow me to install new versions of Thunderbird.

One needed OSX 10.6 and Intel since Firefox 17.0 and Thunderbird 17.0

Since you have a Intel, depending on your specs you may be able to upgrade to OSX 10.6.8 cheap.
