Need explanation of Profile Folder contents

Recently trying to fix a problem with duplicate emails coming into Thunderbird from one particular account, I accidentally deleted that account thus losing all my many, many folders. I managed to resurrect some using Webmail but many were lost. I see I have 6 ISP files in the Profiles Folder/Mail: mail.bigpond.com, then mail.bigpond-1.com and so on to mail.bigpond-5.com, the latter is the new account I set up after losing the previous one. I checked them all and in mail.bigpond-4.com I found Inbox.sbd and this contains all the missing folders.

Why are there so many files like this? Shouldn't I only need one? I need to be using the one with the missing folders. How do I go about restoring this?

You should make sure that there is no mail you want to keep in any of those other folders prior to deleting them. Also create a full backup of your profile prior to deleting something, and create backups on a regular basis in the future. http://kb.mozillazine.org/Thunderbird_:_FAQs_:_Backing_Up_and_Restoring

This isn't normal. So I guess you already had similar problems in the past.

Thank you very much for the replies. It was all easier to do than it looked at first sight. I am hoping once all the extra entries are removed it may also have fixed my duplicate email issue. Thanks again!
