Type about:addons<enter> in the address bar to open your Add-ons Manager. Hot key; <Control>(Mac:<Command>)<Shift> A)

In the Add-ons Manager, on the left, select Extensions. Remove YAHOO Anything. Now do the same in the computers Programs Folder.

Windows: Start > Control Panel > Uninstall Programs. Mac: Open the "Applications" folder. Linux: Check your user manual.

Also look for any Spigot or Conduit extensions, or anything you do not remember intentionally installing.

If the unwanted results page mentions anything like DNS solutions, there may be a link toward the bottom that leads to an explanation of what is causing it and if it's a service, the option to opt out.

Thankyou FredMcD & jscher2000 - I did not have anything at all with anything re Yahoo in the Add-ons extensions, and no enabled extensions at all actually. I have now removed something that said spigot which was not enabed anyway.. Can find no file of any description with yahoo in it on my mac...certainly not in the applications folder...or anywhere! jscher2000 - I will check out your suggestion re the DNS solutions link next time it happens to see if there is anything I can find. In the meantime I will just keep swearing about Yahoo...but thanks for sharing your knowledge.

Who is your ISP? (Internet Service Provider) Does your ISP have any relationship with Yahoo? Like maybe using a Yahoo branded web mail portal? Or maybe a Yahoo branded "homepage"? either can be an indication of a "relationship"

If so, you may be getting a DNS redirect (Domain Name Server) to Yahoo with incomplete or wrong URL's. Most ISP's offer an opt-out for that [questionable] feature.

Information about that "opt out" for your ISP can usually be found via Google using [isp name] opt out as the search parameter. Or you can search your ISP's website for that information - or ask their "support" about it.

These are cheap solutions. These often or always never show up to be uninstalled.

programs, search bars, etc . like companies like ASK are hiding so that they can't be found to uninstall and then if you are lucky after many hours one might clean their computer only to have ASK to reappear.

In recent years, Firefox has made it more difficult for unwanted extensions to be installed, both by requiring your permission for externally installed extensions to run and starting in Firefox 43 by requiring them to be signed by the Mozilla Add-ons team. The way the default search engine is set also has been changed so that it is more difficult to override with settings files changes. However, external software that has permission to modify your system could still find a way to change your Firefox; all browsers have this problem.
