How do I create group email addresses, eg a category with addresses of that group.

Have just installed Thunderbird and it has copied over my addresses but have lost my group list. I need this facility as need to send group emails out for my voluntary role in the Chiltern U3A. I need to create 3 groups with 120 names in each group. Hope you can help.
