Too many "addressee" lines when I reply to a message

Since I upgraded to version 31.0 of Thunderbird, every time I hit "reply" to an e-mail rather than just getting the two lines From and To, I get two additional blank lines before the "Subject" line. I have to shrink the header to get rid of these extra lines. Not a major problem but starting to irritate me.

This did, in fact, solve my problem. I just want to point out that it only takes effect once you exit Thunderbird and then re-start it.

Many thanks!

There is a default set number of lines which display as a minimum. This is set as 3.

This is where it is set so that you can modify it if desired.

  • Tools > Options > Advanced > General tab
  • click on 'Config Editor' button
  • in top search type : compose

look for this line:

  • mail.compose.addresswidget.numRowsShownDefault; Value = 3

If you want to change the default:

  • double click on that line to get a small editing window. Type in the number you prefer eg: 2
  • click on OK
  • click on OK to close and save changes to Options.
