Info: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Plain_text_e-mail_%28Thunderbird%29 section under 'Flowed Format' this will tell you what lines in config editor need to be changed.
You can perform the changes via the Config Editor
Tools > Options > Advanced > General tab click on 'config Editor' button it will tell you to be careful :)
you can use the top search to locate correct lines: eg: flowed or wraplength
