The colors went wrong when Win8.1 installed and stayed wrong with a Firefox reinstall.

Background is black and text is mostly blue. This immediately occurred when I upgraded (?) to Win8.1 from Win8. I tried uninstalling Firefox and downloading and reinstalling and got identical results. I have disabled hardware acceleration in Settings. The machine is a 3 week old Gateway laptop "NE56R41u" cheapy from Walmart without screentouch. I just noticed that opening a link in a new tab no longer defaults to the new tab being on top. Note I can barely read this Support page as some of the blue on black highlights in the generally white text areas are unclear.

Make sure that you haven't enabled an inverted High Contrast theme in the Windows Accessibility settings.

Make sure that you allow pages to choose their own colors.

  • Tools > Options > Content : Fonts & Colors > Colors : [X] "Allow pages to choose their own colors, instead of my selections above"

Note that these settings affect background images.
