Whenever I opened Firefox Start Page, all my bookmarks were displayed on the left side. I accidently hit something, and now all my bookmarks are gone. Help.

For your security, you need to do a bunch of software updates. You may be holding back for some reason. Let us know what it is because there may well be a fix or workaround by now.
To update to Firefox 19, you can use the "Check of Updates" button here:
Help menu > About Firefox
To update your Adobe PDF and Shockwave Flash plugins, and check for other out-of-date plugins, you can use this page:

I know it's time-consuming, but don't let it slide for too long or you may end up having to rebuild everything (and cursing your lack of backups, if you don't make regular backups).

Firefox has a Bookmarks Sidebar you can open and close using Ctrl+b. That's pretty easy to hit if you're trying to bold something, but if a website doesn't intercept it, then it affects your sidebar.
Was that it?

I am not sure if I am experiencing the same issues described above or not. One day, the bookmarks button, which is normally on the right side of the page disappeared. I figured out how to reinstall it, but now when I click there a side bar opens on the left side of the page. I used to have all the bookmarks listed tops down, alphabetically, in a list below the button (page right). It seems awkward that the bookmarks list now opens up (page left) How do I reconfigure the page to put the list back under the bookmark button?
Hi Burks126, it's a little confusing. There are two bookmark buttons: one drops down a copy of the Bookmarks menu and the other opens and closes the Bookmarks sidebar.
The button that drops down the menu is displayed conditionally. If you are showing the classic menu bar (which has a Bookmarks menu), then the button that drops down the menu hides. If you switch back to using the orange Firefox button (the compact menu) then it reappears. This article describes how to switch between the two different menus: Display the Firefox button menu instead of the menu toolbar. Can you find a setup that works for you?
