How can I get irefox to make use of my entire screen. It only uses the middle section.

I just installed Firefox. Previously only used Microsoft Explorer. Now, using Firefox, all web pages just use the middle section of my screen. They do not use the left or right. This makes it hard for me to read like I can with Explorer.
