I have google mail as my home page on firefox but it keeps getting replaced by Facebook. This is not genuine facebook. It asks for credit card details. It is also trying to take over my main homepage but is being blocked by my anti-virus program. I tried removing Firefox and re-loading but the problem remains..It is also stopping me updating windows or communicating with windows. I know it is a virus but is it originating from Firefox?

If you downloaded the correct Firefox installer (like the one at http://getfirefox.com or a mozilla.org website), then the virus is of external nature.

You can try making a new Firefox profile (managing profiles) and see if the problem goes away.

Thank you for your advice and your time. I did download Firefox from the mozilla.org site and I did suspect it was external. I have downloaded several malware removal sites but to no avail. I will try some that you mention. Thanks again.
