Why did Firefox erase the previous window data immediately after it closed the window?

more options

Firefox has twice now lost the data for the main window I keep all my tabs in. This particular time I was watching a video in a window on my second screen while doing things on the main window in the main screen when it began to glitch (the main window) so I closed the window and went to reopen it and instead of opening the window with the tabs I needed it opened a pop up window for gamestop that I had closed a couple of nights ago. No amount of CTRL+SHIFT+N would bring any other window up so I decided to try to restore it with a previous session backup. Only that didn't work either. Firefox used to keep multiple backups for sessions and now it seems to only keep the current and a VERY up to date backup. Both of these just pulled up the video window with no hope of restoring the main window.

What is causing this? It's getting rather annoying for someone who has quite a few tabs.

Sorry to hear that the window didn't restore. Are you sure it was a regular window and not a private browsing window?

I think another user recently was saying that Firefox on two different monitors seemed to have two different lists of recently closed windows (and tabs, but those are window-specific). That seems wrong, but we didn't get to the point of testing it out in detail. I think you would need to keep at least one window open on each monitor to compare the lists on the History menus.

By the way, Firefox has never kept more than the immediately previous session, but you might have been using the Session Manager extension for that.

Positive it wasn't a private browsing window. Don't think I have ever used private browsing in firefox actually.

Thing is, I've never had an issue with two windows in two different monitors before. It would always save the tabs I was using in both correctly if I wanted to reopen the second to watch the videos in it again.

It's just such an odd issue.

I imagine those other backups are probably for the session manager extension which I haven't bothered to reinstall. Though given the issues with the normal restore perhaps I should.

If you wouldn't mind testing whether it is a new "two monitor" issue, you could open and then close a few windows on one side and check the History menus to see whether they match. And then try it on the other side.
