I installed Thunderbird 31.4.0 and can no longer see my calendar entries, am not able to enter new items, nor do the reminders for the calendar entries pop up.

You failed to upgrade Lightning when you upgraded Thunderbird. The two need to match. Upgrade Lightning to match the Thunderbird version you are running and your event data will return.

I am running 31.4.0 Thunderbird (Linux) and Lightning 3.3.4 and am still having the same problem OP mentions. The calendar is completely not dysfunctional.
