no window opens after new install to vista

I have a vista laptop that shows no errors with "sfc /scannow" and has all Microsoft updates installed. I installed firefox for the FIRST TIME (have been using Chrome but it fails to load as well, only IE9 is working) and it does not open.

NO ERROR MESSAGES

task manager does show firefox.exe is running under "processes" but does not show up under "applications"
