Passwords are always changed/modified via the webmail account. If you usualy enter the password each time and have forgotten the old pasword, there is usually a link on the login page, so follow the instructions to reset the pasword.

Then test it by logging on to the webmail using the new password. If you get access then you know the password is correct and working ok.

If you choose to let Password Manager remember your passwords they will be saved here:

  • Tools > Options > Security > Passwords tab
  • click on 'Saved Passwords' button
  • click on 'Show Passwords' button

mailbox for account and password - will refer to incoming smtp for mail account and password - refers to outgoing

Usually. the password for an account will be the same for mailbox and smtp for the same mail account.

If you have changed the password via webmail and want Thunderbird to be updated to use the new password

You need to access the saved password and remove it. Access the saved password as described above.

  • select to highlight both mailbox and smtp for the mail account lines.
  • click on 'Remove' button
  • click on 'Close' button
  • Click on OK button to save changes to Options.
  • Close Thunderbird.
  • Wait for processes to fully finish.
  • Open Thunderbird.

A pop up will occur because either there is no saved password - you just removed it or you never allowed Password Manager to save it because you manually enter it every time. Enter the new password, the same one you used to access your webmail. make sure you enter it correctly. If you want Thunderbird's password manager to remember it and store it in the place as previously described, Put a check in the checkbox to let Password Manager remember the password. Click on Ok.
